四川音乐学院创建于1939年。是中国西南地区唯一所集音乐、美术、舞蹈、戏剧、传媒、工业设计、艺术理论、艺术教育、艺术管理九大学科为一体的多学科、多层次综合高等艺术院校。2008年,在全国高校教学工作水平评估中，被评为“优秀学校”。

学校有本部和新都两个校区。设30个教学院系，一所独立学院——绵阳艺术学院。有28个本科专业，125个专业方向。艺术学理论、音乐与舞蹈学、美术学三个一级学科硕士学位授予权。首批获得国务院学位委员会批准的艺术硕士（MFA）授予权。2009年开始与四川大学联合招收培养文学与音乐传播学博士生。2013年获批博士后创新实践基地。

近五年来，师生在国际、国内重大比赛和评奖中获得国际奖项209项，国内奖项1176项，科研立项83项，出版学术专著近100部。获国家科技进步二等奖，国家文化部科研发明奖两项，省级科技奖20项。国家教育部、中宣部、团中央授予的奖项达17项。学院《音乐探索》入选为全国高校优秀期刊、CSSCI来源期刊、中国核心学术期刊。为我国的文化大发展大繁荣做出了显著贡献。

Sichuan Conservatory of music was founded in 1939. It is the only multi-disciplinary and multi-level comprehensive art college in Southwest China, which integrates music, art, dance, drama, media, industrial design, art theory, art education and art management. In 2008, in the evaluation of teaching level in Colleges and universities nationwide, it was rated as "excellent school". The school has two campuses, headquarters and Xindu. It has won the second prize of national science and technology progress, two scientific research and invention awards of the Ministry of culture and 20 provincial science and technology awards. There are 17 awards awarded by the Ministry of education, the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. Music exploration of the college was selected as the national excellent university journal, CSSCI source journal and China core academic journal. It has made remarkable contributions to the great development and prosperity of Chinese culture.
