湖州王一品斋笔庄有限责任公司始创于清乾隆六年（1741），是中国最老的一家生产和经营湖笔的专业笔庄，距今已有二百六十多年的悠久历史。

据历史记载，清乾隆年间，湖州城里有一位姓王的老笔工，每逢朝廷大比之年，他总要携带一批精制毛笔，随着考生们上京城，到考场或书生寓舍兜售。1741年，一位考生买了他一支羊毫笔，书写得心应手，挥洒自如，竟中了头名状元，这个消息很快传遍了整个京城，后来人们都把他卖的笔叫“一品笔”，称他为王一品，王一品的毛笔因此而名扬四海。同时笔工在他的房顶上塑造一尊“天官铜像”以致标志，一直沿革至今，现在所用商标为“天官牌”。
笔庄以自产“天官牌”商标的湖笔而驰名中外，最著名的品种有“玉兰蕊”、“玉兰”、湖颖“、缶庐妙颖”、“鼎堂遗爱”、“元白锋”、“博古策笔”、“桃李满天下”、“狼毫兰竹”、“纯狼毫书画笔”、“福禄寿喜庆”、“特制长锋狼毫”、“龙凤呈祥”、“精选京楂”及“胎发笔”等等，深受国内外书画家的喜爱。
