西安体育学院创建于1954年，坐落在古城西安小雁塔西侧。

学院现有本部、沣峪口两个校区。教职工819人，专职教师538人：其中教授67人，副教授162人；具有硕士学位以上的教师361人；具有博士学位61人。

学院面向全国招生，现有全日制在校生9417人，本科生8220人，硕士研究生597人。现有8个系（体育教育系、运动训练系、武术系、社会体育与休闲体育系、健康科学系、体育传媒系、体育艺术系、体育经济与体育管理系），2部（研究生部、思政部），1院（继续教育学院），1校（附属竞技体育运动学校）。

学院1957年开始招收体育学类专业本科生，现有18个本科专业（体育学类专业7个，非体育学类专业11个），涵盖了经、理、教、文、管、艺6个专业门类。

学院拥有教学、训练场馆，设有运动人体科学实验中心、新闻实验中心、语音实验中心、计算机实验中心；图书馆是西北地区体育科学文献信息中心，总藏书66余万册。

学院重视对外开放办学，积极开展对外合作与交流，先后与日本、美国、俄罗斯、加拿大、澳大利亚、新西兰、韩国等20多个国家和香港、澳门地区等30所大学及研究机构建立了校际关系和协作关系，加快了学院办学的国际化进程，扩大了国际影响。

Xi'an Institute of physical education was founded in 1954. The people's Government of Shaanxi Province and the State General Administration of Physical Education jointly established colleges and universities. It has formed characteristics in research fields such as sports technology analysis and skill evaluation, sports health promotion, sports industry and national folk sports. Xi'an Institute of physical education, the key research base of sports social science of the State General Administration of physical education, was founded in 1954 and is located in the ancient city of Xi'an Xiaoyan Side of taxi. The college has two campuses, i.e. headquarters and fengyukou. There are 819 faculty members and 538 full-time teachers, including 67 professors and 162 associate professors, 361 teachers with master's degree or above, and 61 with doctor's degree. The college has 9417 full-time students, 8220 undergraduates and 597 postgraduates. There are 8 departments (Department of physical education, Department of sports training, Department of martial arts, Department of social sports and leisure sports, Department of health science, Department of sports media, Department of sports art, Department of sports economy and Sports Management), 2 departments (Graduate Department, Department of Ideological and political affairs), 1 Institute (College of Continuing Education), 1 school (affiliated competitive sports school). In 1957, the college began to recruit undergraduates majoring in physical education, with 18 undergraduate majors (7 in physical education and 11 in non physical education), covering six professional categories, namely, economics, science, education, literature, management and art. The college has teaching and training venues, sports human science experiment center, news experiment center, voice experiment center and computer experiment center; the library is the sports science literature information center in Northwest China, with a total collection of more than 660000 books. The college attaches great importance to open education and actively carries out foreign cooperation and exchanges. It has established inter University Relations and collaborative relations with more than 20 countries such as Japan, the United States, Russia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and 30 universities and research institutions in Hong Kong and Macao, accelerating the internationalization process of the college's education and expanding its international influence.
