恩施玉露产于湖北恩施市南部的芭蕉乡及东郊五峰山。湖北产茶历史悠久,早在唐代就已很著名,现仍是我国的重要产茶省份。恩施玉露是我国保留下来的为数不多的一种蒸青绿茶,其制作工艺及所用工具相当古老,与陆羽《茶经》所载十分相似。
相传于清康熙年间,恩施芭蕉黄连溪有一蓝姓茶商,垒灶研制,所制茶叶外形紧圆、坚挺,色绿、毫白如玉,故称恩施玉绿。到晚清至民国初期,为茶叶发展兴盛时期。1936年湖北民生公司管茶官杨润之,改锅炒杀青,其茶不但茶之汤色、叶底绿亮、鲜香味爽,而且使外形色泽油润翠绿,毫白如玉,故改名为恩施玉露。
恩施玉露是我国罕有的传统蒸青绿茶,以别具一格的品质特色,赢得世人赞赏,屡次被评为名茶。该茶选用叶色浓绿的一芽一叶或一芽二叶鲜叶经蒸汽杀青制作而成。恩施玉露对采制的要求很严格,芽叶须细嫩、匀齐,成茶条索紧细,色泽鲜绿,匀齐挺直,状如松针;茶汤清澈明亮,香气清鲜,滋味甘醇,叶底色绿如玉。“三绿”(茶绿、汤绿、叶底绿)为其显著特点。

Enshi Yulu is a rare traditional steamed green tea in China. It has won the world's appreciation for its unique quality and characteristics, and has been rated as a famous tea for many times. The tea is made of one bud, one leaf or two leaves with strong green leaves by steam. Enshi Yulu has very strict requirements on the collection. The buds and leaves must be tender and even, and the tea leaves must be tight and thin. The color of the tea leaves is bright green, even and straight, and the shape is like pine needles.
