2007年4月，新生代市场监测机构发布CMMS2007中国市场与媒体研究（春季）数据，新民晚报日阅读人数达450万人，平均每4个上海人就有1位阅读新民晚报，在上海所有的报纸中具有最大的阅读人数，比第二位的报纸日阅读人数多60%。新民晚报的读者品质、忠诚度，与上海区域文化的粘着力，使她真正成为上海的城市符号。
