南翔小笼包至今已有100多年历史,原名南翔大肉馒头,后曾称南翔大馒头,由于方言的关系,上海人俗称之“南翔小笼馒头”,并非北方人所指的“馒头”,而是以皮薄、馅大、汁多、形美着称于世的包子;由于用文火和小笼来蒸制,所以上海人又称其为“南翔小笼包”。南翔小笼历经岁月沧桑,在中国食品点心史上成为享誉中外的精美点心,如今在海内外享有很高的知名度。
