In 1951, L & M quickly surpassed GSI's geographic division with its defense related contracts. The company was renamed general instrument. In the same year, the company was renamed Texas Instruments, which is now its name. GSI gradually became a subsidiary of Texas Instruments until it was sold to halliburto in 1988.
