旺旺公司开始业务追溯至1962年5月在台湾设立之宜兰食品工业股份有限公司。当时主要是生产农产品罐头食品并以出口外销为主要业务。

公司在1983年与日本三大米果制造商之一的岩冢签署了技术合作合约,共同开发台湾米果市场,并迅速取得市场领导品牌的地位。

1987年旺旺商标在大陆申请注明,为台商在大陆申请商标注册的首例。面对有限的资源及台湾市场,并及时掌握大陆开放经济之良机,公司在1992年,正式拓展中国市场,旺旺产品广告在大陆电视台首播。第一家工厂于1994年在湖南开始生产并为旺旺进入大陆庞大消费市场奠下坚固的基础。

为提高公司形象,将资源及投资机会资本化并开拓资金来源,新加坡投资控股公司-旺旺控股私人有限公司在1995年10月成立并于1996年5月在新加坡交易所第一级股市挂牌,并改名为旺旺控股有限公司。
