华东理工大学原名华东化工学院，办学历史可追溯到100多年前的南洋公学和震旦学院，是1952年由交通大学（上海）、震旦大学（上海）、大同大学（上海）、东吴大学（苏州）、江南大学（无锡）等校化工系合并组建而成的以化工特色闻名的高等学府。

学校现有徐汇校区、奉贤校区和金山科技园区三部分，占地面积2652亩，各类建筑总面积92余万平方米，建有一批标准体育设施；图书馆总藏书量323.4万册，收订中外文期刊4.3万余种。

学校设有化工学院、生物工程学院、化学与分子工程学院、药学院、材料科学与工程学院、信息科学与工程学院、机械与动力工程学院、资源与环境工程学院、理学院、商学院、社会与公共管理学院、艺术设计与传媒学院、外国语学院、法学院、体育科学与工程学院、马克思主义学院（人文科学研究院）、国际教育学院、中德工学院（国际工程师学院）、网络教育学院、继续教育学院。

East China University of science and technology, formerly known as East China Institute of chemical technology, dates back to Nanyang public school and Sinian college more than 100 years ago.
