The markets in the regions mentioned above account for two-thirds of all electricity and natural gas. In addition, it also involves markets in other regions, such as the trans regional Pan European natural gas market in the United Kingdom, the Midwest of the United States, the newly opened Italy, Spain (as well as Russia and France), energy trading and environmental maintenance. At a press conference on September 27, 1999, two traditional energy giants, VEBA and viag, announced their merger in 2000. One of their subsidiaries, E.ON energy, is produced by Prussian power and Bavaria energy. In November 2001, E.ON's share-holding company submitted an application to the Federal Cartel for the acquisition of [Ruhr Natural Gas Co., Ltd.] in Essen city. After the Federal Cartel vetoed the application, a ministerial permission was granted. Until March 2003, E.ON started legal disputes with its competitors to complete the acquisition. In the end, E.ON became the sole owner of Ruhr Natural Gas Co., Ltd., with 60% market share of German natural gas. On July 1, 2004, the name of Ruhr Natural Gas Co., Ltd. was changed into E.ON Ruhr Natural Gas Co., Ltd. and it belongs to E.ON Konzern. Since E.ON sold a large number of shares in other companies, such as viaginterkom (sold to BT; today's O2), part of Austrian mobile operator one, cross regional water supplier gelsenwasserag and real estate company viterra, and then focused on the power and natural gas industries. E. On has instead taken a stake in many of the Post Privatization energy suppliers in Eastern Europe.
