早在清·乾隆年间(1790年), 青居厂乐、廖两家从浙江引进冬菜腌制技术,世代相传。到1950年,南充县青居的乐作周、廖泽沛继承祖业,各自经营酱园业务。1956年在社会主义改造中将乐、廖两家纳入公私合营划归青居区供销社领导,定名为“前进副食厂”,生产和销售冬菜。1958年改为“南充县青居区供销社副食厂”。乐作周、廖泽沛被聘为工厂的技术人员,传艺带徒,培养后继人才19名,为青居冬菜的发展奠定了基础。副食厂的规模在不断扩大,厂房逐年兴建,产量连年上升,综合乐、廖两家技术后,产品独具风味,70年代初成为南充县出口的重要商品之一。1976年全省在涪陵召开“四菜”(冬菜、榨菜、芽菜、大头菜)会议上,青居区供销社副食厂代表作典型发言。党的十一届三中全会后,农村推行农业生产责任制,农民有了生产自主权,由于箭杆菜不择土壤,不与粮食争地,不同农作物争肥,生长期短,这就养成了当地农民沿袭种植箭杆菜的良好习惯,并逐年扩大种植面积。1980年,南充地区行署召开物资交流大会,有全国各地代表参加,南充冬菜倍受喜爱。青居区供销社生产的冬菜以“烟山牌”商标注册。1992年青居区供销社副食厂脱离青居供销社,由南充县供销社直管,取名“四川南充冬菜厂”。1997年该厂同四川省轻工研究设计院联合研制开发出,免洗免切,开袋即食的“碎粒型”系列冬菜,完成了南充冬菜历史上的一次革命、一次飞越。2001年为实施品牌战略,更名“四川南充烟山冬菜厂”。为了做大做强传统产品,2005年12月企业进行股份制改造后,组建了今天的“南充烟山味业有限责任公司。
