广东电力发展股份有限公司（简称：粤电力）于1992年9月8日经广东省人民政府粤府函[1992]20号文及广东省企业股份制试点联审小组、广东省经济体制改革委员会粤股审[1992]54号文批准，由广东省电力集团公司、中国建设银行广东省信托投资公司、广东省电力开发公司、广东国际信托投资公司和广东发展银行发起成立。

经中国证监会批准，1993年10月粤电力发行A股，并于同年11月在深圳证券交易所挂牌上市。经国务院证券委批准，1995年6月粤电力B股发行上市。B股发行完成后，外资股占公司总股本的25.83％，粤电力由此转为外商投资股份有限公司。2001年4月、2010年5月和2012年12月，粤电力分别成功增发A股，公司总股本达到437,523.67万股。

2001年8月广东省在全国率先实施“厂网分家”的电力体制改革，广东省电力集团有限公司拥有的粤电力股权由广东省粤电资产经营有限公司继续持有，2003年5月广东省粤电资产经营有限公司更名为广东省粤电集团有限公司。广东省粤电集团有限公司作为控股股东，目前直接和间接持有股份占粤电力总股本的69.64％。

粤电力的主要经营范围为“电力项目的投资、建设和经营管理，电力的生产和销售，电力行业技术咨询和服务。”

自成立以来，粤电力一直坚持“取资于民，用资于电，惠之于众”的经营宗旨和“办电为主，多元发展”的经营方针，充分发挥证券市场的融资功能，致力于广东省的电力建设。经过二十年的奋斗，从成立之初仅有60万千瓦的可控发电装机增长到目前1788.08万千瓦，总资产由成立之初的13.84亿元增长到679.19亿元（2013年12月31日），实现了电力主业规模化、能源结构多元化、企业管理规范化，成为主营业务鲜明、规模效益突出、财务实力雄厚、持续发展能力强的优质电力上市公司。

Guangdong Electric Power Group Co., Ltd. continues to hold the equity of Guangdong electric power. In May 2003, Guangdong Electric Power Asset Management Co., Ltd. changed its name to Guangdong Electric Power Group Co., Ltd. Guangdong Yuedian Group Co., Ltd., as the controlling shareholder, currently directly and indirectly holds 69.64% of the total share capital of Guangdong power.
