东北林业大学创建于1952年7月，原名东北林学院，是在浙江大学农学院森林系和东北农学院森林系基础上建立的，由原国家林业部直属管理。1985年8月更名为“东北林业大学”。

学校地处哈尔滨市，校园占地136公顷，并拥有帽儿山实验林场和凉水实验林场等教学、科研、实习基地，总面积达3.3万公顷。

学校是一所以林科为优势，以林业工程为特色，农、理、工、经、管、文、法、医、艺相结合的多科性大学。现设有研究生院、17个学院和1个教学部，有63个本科专业，9个博士后科研流动站，1个博士后科研工作站，8个一级学科博士点、38个二级学科博士点，19个一级学科硕士点、96个二级学科硕士点、11个种类32个领域的专业学位硕士点。拥有林学、林业工程两个一流学科，3个一级学科国家重点学科，11个二级学科国家重点学科、6个国家林业局重点学科、2个国家林业局重点（培育）学科、1个黑龙江省重点学科群、7个黑龙江省重点一级学科、4个黑龙江省领军人才梯队。

学校现有研究生、全日制本科生2.3万余人。自建校以来，已向国家输送各类毕业生13万余人。现有教职员工2500余人，其中专任教师1200余人。

Northeast Forestry University was founded in July 1952, formerly known as Northeast Forestry College. It is established on the basis of the Forestry Department of Zhejiang University Agricultural College and the Forestry Department of Northeast Agricultural College. It is under the direct management of the former Ministry of forestry. In August 1985, it was renamed as "Northeast Forestry University". Located in Harbin City, the school covers an area of 136 hectares, and has teaching, scientific research and practice bases such as Maoershan Experimental Forest Farm and Liangshui Experimental Forest Farm, with a total area of 33000 hectares. The university is a multi-disciplinary university with forestry as its advantage, forestry engineering as its feature, and the combination of agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, culture, law, medicine and art. At present, there are 63 undergraduate majors, 9 postdoctoral research flow stations, 1 postdoctoral research workstation, 8 first-class discipline doctoral programs, 38 second-class discipline doctoral programs, 19 first-class discipline master programs, 96 second-class discipline master programs, 11 kinds of professional degree master programs in 32 fields. It has two first-class disciplines of forestry and forestry engineering, three first-class disciplines and national key disciplines, 11 second-class disciplines and national key disciplines, six key disciplines of State Forestry Administration, two key (cultivation) disciplines of State Forestry Administration, one key discipline group of Heilongjiang Province, seven key first-class disciplines of Heilongjiang Province and four leading talent echelons of Heilongjiang Province. The university has more than 23000 graduate students and full-time undergraduates. Since its establishment, it has sent more than 130000 graduates of all kinds to the country. At present, there are more than 2500 teaching staff, including more than 1200 full-time teachers.
