仰恩大学由爱国华侨吴庆星先生及其家族设立的仰恩基金会于1987年创办，是具有颁发国家本科学历证书和授予学士学位资格的民办大学。2008年以良好的成绩通过教育部本科教学工作水平评估，成为福建省通过本科教学工作水平评估的民办大学。仰恩大学现有8个学院，5个直属系部，18个本科专业，涵盖经、管、文、法、工五大学科门类。在管理体制上实行董事会领导下的校长负责制；在发展方式上走以质量提升为核心的内涵式发展道路。目前，学校正朝着“开放型、国际化”现代大学的目标迈进。
