西泠印社创立于清光绪三十年（1904），是我国现存历史悠久的文人社团，也是海内外成立将早的金石篆刻专业学术团体。

西泠印社社址坐落于浙江省杭州市西湖景区孤山西麓，南至白堤，西近西泠桥，北邻里西湖，占地面积7088.86平方米，建筑总面积1749.77平方米。

西泠印社由浙派篆刻家丁仁、王禔、吴隐、叶铭等召集同人发起创建。1913年，近代艺坛巨擘吴昌硕出任首任社长，盛名之下，天下印人翕然向风，东瀛名家河井荃庐、长尾雨山渡海来归，一时精英云集，入社者均为精擅篆刻、书画、鉴藏、考古、文史等之卓然大家。西泠印社现有社员约380人，分布于中国境内近30个省（市）自治区、香港、澳门特别行政区、台湾地区和日本、韩国、新加坡、马来西亚、法国、捷克、加拿大等国家。
