1990年10月，嘉定当地四家乡镇企业通过强强联合，合并组建成上海嘉宝照明电器公司，于1992年4月经上海市经济委员会沪经企（1992）275号文批准改制为上海嘉宝实业股份有限公司，同年12月在上海证券交易所上市（股票代码600622）。1994年8月，以上海嘉宝实业股份有限公司为核心，组建嘉宝集团。

2000年，公司通过重大股权重组，成为嘉定区国有资产相对控股的上市公司。在嘉定区委区府的关心和支持下，公司的主导产业转向以地产开发为主，逐步确立了“品质地产、品位生活”的品牌理念，实施了“一业为主、适度多元、本土做强、逐步向外”的基本战略，加快了产业结构的战略性调整，使房地产开发成为公司主业。通过持续不懈的努力，公司的内部管理水平不断提升，核心竞争力进一步增强，地产品牌效应逐步显现，经营业绩呈现出持续、稳定增长的发展态势。集团公司现为国家一级房地产资质开发企业，拥有全资、控股、参股企业二十余家。2015年实现净利润2.74亿元，净资产收益率达到8.99%。截止2016年3月底，公司净资产50亿元,总资产106亿元。
