1825年,24岁的塞若斯·Clarks开设了一个生产羊皮地毯的作坊。五年之后,塞若斯的弟弟詹姆斯加入了兄长的生意,开始利用制造地毯剩余的角料制造拖鞋,大受欢迎。
1842年Clarks已经有900多名雇员,每年生产12000双皮鞋,并销售到澳大利亚等遥远的国家。
