公司拥有成熟、先进、可靠的铁路煤炭重载运输技术体系。所辖大秦线是具有世界先进水平、年运量大的现代化专业煤炭运输线路，采用Locotrol、双线电气化、GSM-R等重载技术，配置了性能先进的机车车辆等设备。公司依托北同蒲、宁岢线等万吨、2万吨装车点和秦皇岛、曹妃甸等煤炭接卸港口，组织大规模自动化装卸和重载直达运输，形成了完整、先进、高效的煤炭重载集疏运系统。
