楚雄和瑞祥食品有限责任公司的前身是楚雄和瑞祥食品公司。1998年至2001年，原国有企业楚雄州食品公司、楚雄州蔬菜水果公司、楚雄市食品公司、楚雄市粮食局饲料公司先后改制为股份合作制企业。2000年，已改制的楚雄州食品公司、楚雄市食品公司合并组建楚雄市和瑞祥食品公司。2001年已改制的楚雄州蔬菜水果公司、楚雄市粮食局饲料公司并入楚雄市和瑞祥食品公司。

2003年，经批准，楚雄和瑞祥食品公司实施了深化企业产权制度改革，公司性质由股份合作制企业改制为民营性质的有限责任公司，公司实有股东四十多名，职工一百多名，公司名称也变更为现用名称“楚雄和瑞祥食品有限责任公司”。2007年，企业进行了以集中股权和优化股权结构为目标的内部改革。这次改制，公司股东通过股权转让，股东人数集中为六名(次年又退出一名)，股权结构也得到了很大改善，同时很好地实现了原股东和职工分流安置。改制以后，公司决策效能有了很大提高。

目前，公司拥有产能为年屠宰生猪40万头的A类生猪定点屠宰厂一个，库容3600M2的冷冻冷藏库一个，大型综合农贸市场一个，乡镇定点屠宰厂五个，鲜肉配送中心一个（下辖一个总店和16个自营分店）。公司有高层管理人员5人，员工209人。公司业务主要以生猪收购、屠宰加工、肉食品销售为主，包含农产品交易市场管理，食品冷冻冷藏，水果蔬菜保鲜，种子储藏，野生菌急冻、冷藏加工，代办运输，农产品经纪服务，白冰生产销售等内容，是一家综合性食品加工服务型企业。
