In addition to its own business, in order to cope with the fierce market competition, Air France has also actively carried out industry alliance and merger in recent years. On June 22, 2000, Air France and Aeromexico, Delta Airlines and koreaair formed a SkyTeam. After that, Czech Airlines and Italian Airlines joined in. At present, the Skyteam network has spread over 114 countries, with 8200 flights traveling to 512 terminals around the world every day, providing high-quality online aviation services for passengers from all countries. On May 4, 2004, Air France successfully acquired 89% control of KLM with 833 million euros (US $957 million), forming the largest airline in the world. KLM shareholders gave away 41.76 million shares, about 89.2% of the airline's capital. This merger is the first cross-border merger of major European airlines. After the merger, the scale will be larger than that of JAS, which is also the largest airline in the world in terms of turnover. In terms of passenger volume, Air France KLM will be the third largest airline in the world after American Airlines and United Airlines. The deal has helped the two companies save costs and boost revenues, boost passenger traffic and meet growing competition from budget airlines. It is estimated that the annual long-term consolidated income will reach 600 million euros. According to the agreement, the two airlines will form a joint holding company. Under the name of the holding company, Air France and KLM will coexist in their respective names for three years. Air France - KLM, the holding company, will own 100% of the controlling rights of the two companies, but KLM will continue to be a Dutch company, with 51% of the controlling rights held by the state and two funds. Such an arrangement would enable KLM to maintain its foreign landing rights. The deal reduced the French government's stake in Air France from 54% to 44.7%. Air France employees own 10.5% of the equity of the new company, while the former shareholders of KLM own 17.3%. Nearly 45% of the company's shares will be listed on the stock market.
