Gateway （中文商标：捷威）于 1985 年在美国中西部的一间农舍里创立，拥有数百万满意的客户。公司创始人泰德-温特(Ted Waitt) 以他祖母向银行担保的 10，000 美元贷款、一台租赁的计算机和一份三页的经营计划起家，将 Gateway 发展成了一个具有革命性意义的公司。

In March 2004, gateway acquired emachines, one of the world's fast-growing and efficient PC manufacturers. In September 2004, the company moved its headquarters to Irvine, California. Gateway's nickname in mainland China is the spotted cow. At present, the emachines brand of the company is sold by the domestic retail giants, while the value-added products of gateway are provided to the major retail manufacturers through telephone, network and direct sales. Gateway respects customers and focuses on the improvement of service quality and value. In October 2007, gateway was acquired by Taiwan based Acer Inc. In 2008, the gateway team conducted Acer's global desktop business, Acer had higher expectations for the desktop business, and the gateway team had strong R & D and market experience in the desktop business.
