日照港股份有限公司是山东省人民政府批准，由日照港集团有限公司（原日照港务局）为主发起人，联合兖矿集团有限公司、中国中煤能源集团公司（原中国煤炭工业进出口集团公司）、淄博矿业集团有限责任公司、山西潞安矿业（集团）有限责任公司、山西晋城无烟煤矿业集团有限责任公司等五家法人单位共同以发起设立方式设立，于2002年7月15日取得山东省工商行政管理局颁发的企业法人营业执照。。

“日照港”股票于2006年10月17日在上海证券交易所挂牌上市，目前注册资本为3,075,653,888元。
