2005年,为提高我国男科学专业的学术水平和临床诊疗水平,满足学科建设和男科疾病诊疗需要,在郭应禄院士的直接组织领导下,北大医院男科中心正式成立运行。北大医院男科中心作为国内目前国家三级甲等医院中最大的男科,拥有北京市乃至全国知名的中西医男科学专家,集医疗、教学、科研为一体,男科学发展进入规模化、规范化的高速发展阶段。

医疗工作主要针对男性性功能障碍、男性不育症、男性生殖器畸形、前列腺疾病、性腺功能障碍、生殖系感染、性传播疾病、男性计划生育、男性更年期综合症、男性生殖系统肿瘤等等,包括门诊、辅助检查、病房及手术室四大区域,设有药剂科、检验科、心电图室、超声室、放射科、尿动力学检查室、男女性功能检查室、电生理室、骨密度检查室、膀胱镜检查室等,主要检查设备包括岛津多功能数字化遥控X光诊断系统、GE数字彩色超声诊断系统、Laborie和Medtronic影像尿动力测试仪、Medtronic盆底肌电诊断仪、Lunar双能X线骨密度仪、RigiScan阴茎硬度测量仪、MEDOC定量感觉障碍测定仪、全自动血、尿、精液、全自动酶联免疫分析仪等,治疗系统包括泌尿男科腔镜诊断治疗系统(包括全数字化膀胱尿道镜、尿道内切开镜、前列腺电切镜和腹腔镜);Laborie和Medtronic生物反馈治疗系统;男女性功能障碍治疗系统;CO2激光治疗系统;全套数字化重症监护系统;显微外科专用手术设备等,常规开展阴茎假体植入、阴茎背深静脉结扎、阴茎背神经矫形、显微镜下输精管-输精管吻合和附睾输精管吻合、男性外生殖器整形等男科特色手术。至今北大医院男科中心已经成为国内公立医院中规模最大、设备最好的治疗水平较高的单位。

教学方面,北大医院男科中心是北京大学博士点和博士后流动站之一。开展男科学医师培训和男科学领域的科研工作,担负男科学博士后、博士、硕士培养和全国泌尿男科临床医师的继续教育任务。至2008年,共有4名博士后出站,博士2名毕业,在读博士研究生5名,博士后3名;主办5次“创普健康男人工程”男科医师培训班,主办3届长城国际男科论坛。
