东北电气发展股份有限公司（原名东北输变电机械制造股份有限公司）是于1993年2月18日经重组后注册成立的股份有限公司。公司于1995年7月3日发售25,795万H股并在香港联合交易所上市，同年11月29日发售3,000万A股并在深圳证券交易所上市。1997年8月29日经原国家外经贸部（现国家商务部）批准，公司转为外商投资企业。

公司是中国输变电设备科研、制造、出口的主要基地，是国内输变电和特高压直流设备主要供应商之一。主要的控股子公司有4家：新东北电气(锦州)电力电容器有限公司、阜新封闭母线有限责任公司、东北电气（北京）有限公司和东北电气（香港）有限公司，参股公司有伟达高压电气有限公司。

公司主导产品为高压油浸并联电力电容器、干式自愈式并联电容器、电容式电压互感器、电容器成套装置、滤波电容器、耦合电容器、特种电容器、自冷封闭母线、配电变压器等系统保护及传输设备。主导产品国内市场覆盖率较高，产品出口20多个国家和地区，享有良好的市场信誉，主要的控股子公司均为行业骨干企业。
