1984年企业成立，经深圳市人民政府批准，创立“深圳市工程开发公司”，为市属全民所有制国营企业。

1994年5月公司在深交所挂牌上市，股票简称深长城，形成了房地产开发、建筑施工、资产经营、物业管理四个完整产业体系。
