Founded in 1952, the State General Administration of sports and Shanghai Municipal People's Government jointly established and managed a multi-disciplinary university with the characteristics of physical education and the main disciplines of pedagogy, literature and management. After more than 60 years of construction and development, the university has formed a complete school level including undergraduate, master and doctor. At present, the school has doctoral programs in the first level discipline of physical education, master's degree programs in physical education, applied psychology, medical technology (rehabilitation therapy), journalism, and master's degree programs in sports, art, journalism and communication, and public management. The discipline has a number of scholars and industry coaches and referees, including the Yangtze River scholar distinguished professor of the Ministry of education, the Oriental scholar distinguished professor of Shanghai University, the foreign academician of the National Academy of Sports Sciences of the United States, senior officials of international sports organizations, coaches of national sports teams and senior lecturers in training judges of international sports organizations.
