2002年,公司的三位卡骆驰位创始人注意到加拿大Foamcreations公司生产的特殊材料木底鞋具有良好的防滑性能,穿着也十分舒适。他们在原基础上作出一定修改后设计出一种本来为划船运动准备的鞋子。这种鞋子外形和拖鞋十分类似,鞋面上布满了洞眼,同时还有一条用以防滑,可以转动的带子。在2002年的FortLauderdaleInternational(劳德岱尔船划运动展)上,CROCS受到极大关注,2004年CROCS又买下持有专利的加拿大公司并将该材料命名为Crostile塑料。这种材料是内含封闭式气泡的塑料,能够在体温作用下自动变形以适应脚部形状。
品牌特色

卡骆驰的鞋最初是为了玩水上活动的人,设计「一双可以防水、防滑且不会在船板上采出鞋痕」的鞋子。鞋子是用一种天然树胶,使用特殊专利制造而成,且一举成名。上市後受到美国明星们的青睐,并开始风行世界各地,行销全球40个市场目前一个月有有四百万双的制造额,光是去年的收益就有三亿五千四百万美元。

2004年「美国人体工学协会」甚至宣称,穿卡骆驰鞋较赤脚站立,可以省下62.6%的力气。2007年6月8日,这个鞋子获得英国品牌服饰协会(DrapersFootwearAwards,U.K.)所颁发的金奖,理由是可以减轻重量。

2007年6月22日华盛顿邮报报导,美国总统布希赶上夏天穿凉鞋的风潮,而他脚上搭配着黑色短袜的运动休闲凉鞋正是「Crocs(卡骆驰)」牌的凉鞋。这新闻也令这个品牌意外的得到广告效果,也就是如此,在台湾不少媒体也称之为「布希鞋」。绿营人士为捧美入联,游行中穿此鞋为号召。也有卖场称之为「园丁鞋」。
