南翔小笼闻名遐迩，由嘉定南翔镇黄明贤于同治年间创制设店专卖，店名：日华轩，该店后毁于日军轰炸，黄明贤妻弟南翔镇人员吴翔升看到上海工商业蓬勃发展，老城隍庙集市空前繁荣，遂于光绪二十六年（公元1900）携制作师傅赵秋荣，承袭祖传工艺，选九曲桥畔原船舫厅旧址，创设了专营南翔小笼的“长兴楼”，后店名改为“南翔馒头店”，专营南翔小笼，以皮薄、馅丰、上口一包卤汁而名扬四方。
