1935年,中国第一家全能型铅笔制造企业---中国标准国货铅笔厂股份有限公司在上海诞生,经过艰苦创业,特别是解放后职工们的奋发努力,企业获得新的活力,于1954年改名为中国铅笔一厂。

中铅一厂积极深化改革,转换经营机制,使企业发生了深刻的变化,基本实现了“产品结构由单一木质铅笔向多种产品”、“经营机制由生产型向经营开拓型”、“营销观念以生产为中心向以经济效益为中心”、“销售渠道由单渠道向多渠道”等四个重点转移。形成木制铅笔14个规格,年生产能力5.3亿支;化妆笔2个系列,37个品种,年生产能力2000万支;活动铅笔3个系列,10个品种,年产能力500万支;细铅芯2个系列,20个品种,年产能力10抑制四大系列产品共同经营的多门类、多品种的综合性生产企业。

1990年全厂占地面积15194平方米,建筑面积20566平方米。拥有各类设备562台(套)。固定资产(原值)1571.6万元,净值1209万元。年末职工人数988人。工业总产值(按1990年不变价格计算)6693.3万元。全员劳动生产率70158元/人,年利税总额2000万元,利润1304.5万元,人均利税突破2万元。主要经济指标始终列于全国铅笔行业之首。成为全国铅笔行业中规模最大,产量最高,品种最多,效益最好,声誉最佳的企业;也成为全国轻工重点骨干企业。1990年核定为铅笔行业唯一的国家一级企业。
