一九九七年，工厂在"九五重点科技攻关"数控机床产业化工程项目投标中，力拔头筹、一举中标，成为国家级重点数控机床生产基地，同年工厂生产的CAK系列数控机床被国家机械工业部评为机械工业的名牌产品。工厂现已完成以普通车床为主导产品向数控车床为主导产品的过渡，数控产品的产值约占年总产值的60%以上。

自2000年以来，企业经济规模连续七年实现高速增长。销售收入增长11倍，机床产量增长11倍。中高档数控机床批量进入国家重点行业的核心制造领域，为汽车、国防军工、航空航天等行业提供的数控机床已占数控机床总销量的70%以上；公司已具备为国家重点项目提供成套技术装备的能力，为上海磁悬浮列车项目提供4条轨道梁加工生产线，标志沈阳机床在该领域的研发与制造能力已达到国际先进水平；为奇瑞汽车成功提供四条发动机缸体、缸盖生产线，标志国产高档数控机床首次批量打入汽车零部件核心制造领域，从而结束了国外制造商在这一领域的垄断局面。
