皖新传媒前身为安徽省新华书店。2002年9月，经中共安徽省委、安徽省人民政府同意和中宣部、新闻出版总署批准，在原安徽省新华书店、安徽省外文书店基础上成立安徽新华书店集团有限公司（2005年更名为安徽新华发行集团有限公司）；2008年2月，原安徽新华发行集团有限公司整体改制为安徽新华传媒股份有限公司（以下简称“公司”）。2010年1月18日，公司在上海证券交易所上市（股票简称：皖新传媒，股票代码：601801）。
公司是集文化消费、教育服务、现代物流等产业于一体的大型国有控股文化企业，全资或控股110多家子分公司，在安徽、江苏、上海等地拥有630多个发行网点，形成了覆盖安徽全省城乡、完整的出版物分销、服务体系。根据2017年7月国家新闻出版广电总局发布的《2016年新闻出版产业分析报告》，在33家中国内地上市的出版传媒企业中，皖新传媒在股市总市值、资产总额、营业收入、利润总额、平均净资产收益率都有着不错的成绩。

Anhui new media was formerly known as Anhui Xinhua bookstore. In September 2002, Anhui Xinhua Bookstore Group Co., Ltd.
