Founded in 1844, Shanghai established an earlier Western medicine hospital, a comprehensive three-level first-class hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. Renji Hospital, affiliated to school of medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University, was founded in 1844 as Shanghai western medicine hospital. Since the establishment of the hospital more than 100 years ago, the scale of the hospital has been expanding. Especially in the past 50 years since the founding of the people's Republic of China, the hospital has developed rapidly. At present, it has become a large-scale comprehensive three-level first-class hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. It has many key disciplines, key laboratories and clinical medical centers. The hospital is now composed of two parts: the west is located in the central business district of Huangpu District, Shanghai, adjacent to the Bund; the East is located in Lujiazui financial and Trade Zone, Pudong.
