万承志堂创始人

万承志堂创始人万嗣轩（1822~1898），曾为杭城一代巨贾，与曾国藩为世交好友。其子万一奇官至三品，时任清朝“两浙盐运使”。万公于清光绪初年1875年，为圆父亲利济苍生之夙愿创办了当时杭城著名的药馆“万承志堂”。

百年历史

万嗣轩公的父亲夙以利济苍生为心，恒思设药馆之所，萃远方珍异之品，按随时配制之方，以待用无遗，而百姓回生有恃。为承先父开办药馆济世救人的遗志，万嗣轩公于清光绪初年公元1875年，创建了当时杭城著名的药馆，起名为“承志堂”。因是万家人创办，世称“万承志堂”。

万承志堂始建于杭城清泰街附近（即柴木巷到义井巷一带，佑圣观路和九曲巷的中间位置），药馆门面高广气派，整个占地面积约有3000平方米，馆内后堂还设有自己的养鹿场。

在创馆之际，万嗣轩公就立下“做药务真，不得欺客；行医务正，不得欺世”之祖训，要求本馆所售药材务求道地纯真，誓不以假取利；所请医家务求品正医精，誓不以虚名误人。

历代万承志堂经营者以利济苍生的虔诚之心，“蓄四方之药，治天下之病”的宏远之志，精心经营使万承志堂跻身“杭州药业三门市”，与杭城“中药六大家”共同撑起了与北京齐名的南方药市。

万承志堂以药材质量上乘著称，《杭俗遗风》中记载：“杭州药店中，就其最著称者，万承志堂之药材、药酒，皆称一时矣”。1929年万承志堂的雄黄、鹿角胶、麦冬、川黄连等药材因其出众的品质，荣获首届西湖博览会金奖。万承志堂药材修合之功（即丸散膏丹的制作工艺）亦堪称一绝，编撰出版于清光绪十一年（1885年）的《万承志堂古方秘籍》中，就系统记载了15大类600多种丸散验方、秘方。流传至今的这本书，据考证为自南宋以来江南最为完整的中药古籍。
