1997年,东南卫视推出《银河之星大擂台》、《开心100》等高收视节目,1998年东南卫视成为首家在台湾落地的省级卫视;2001年东南卫视首推大陆第一档报道海峡两岸时事、民生、文化的新闻资讯类节目《海峡新干线》,极具影响的台海综艺和极具权威的台湾资讯,让东南卫视连续五年成为最受中国观众喜爱的五大省级卫视之一。

2006年东南卫视继续强化台海特色,明确提出了“欢乐海峡”的频道定位诉求,创办了“欢乐海峡”栏目带,推出了由台湾主持人吴佩慈、吴淡如参与制作的两档综艺节目。由于独特的定位、高品位的节目、鲜明的品牌形象与核心竞争力使得东南卫视获得“全国十强电视品牌媒体”称号。

2007年东南卫视再度起航,丰富“欢乐海峡”的内涵,实施精品化改版,全新推出传达慈善公益理念的《海峡传情》、展示闽籍企业家风采的《闽商闯四海》等节目,构建起传达海峡两岸爱心的桥梁,充当着海峡两岸的摆渡者,获得了“年度中国创新广电”的荣誉。

2008年,东南卫视推出《海峡新干线》午间延伸通栏《海峡午报》,实现台海新闻栏目在全天播出时段的合理分布。《开心100》联手台湾《综艺大哥大》推出《开心100之大魔竞》,掀起“全民大魔竞”收视热潮。年底,东南卫视记者赴台驻点,成为继央视后大陆第二家获准赴台驻点采访的电视媒体。

2011年,东南卫视全新改版,推出晚间21:10综艺纵贯线,《明天就出发》、《朋友就该这样》、《欢乐合唱团》等王牌节目组成了一周七天的节目带;并且深化海峡栏目带,《海峡新干线》、《海峡午报》、《海峡深呼吸》全面出击;全年斥巨资购首播争独播。2011东南卫视全速挺进卫视第一梯队阵营行列之中!
