20世纪20年代,苏南纺织商人吴嘉声、陆炳坤建立作坊式纺织工厂,立志做民族品牌产品,这一想法在当时犹如天方夜谭。在战乱不断、民不聊生的20年代至40年代,他们的工厂被多次摧毁,但有梦想支撑,他们没有放弃,不断地辗转重建。从中国作坊式生产到西方机械化大生产,到兼并八个纺织小厂建立了“公私合营”经营制度,他们拼搏奋进;80年代正值改革开放,工厂新一代领导果断进军国际面料市场,成功研发“黑牡丹”牛仔面料,这一决策左右了当今国际牛仔市场的格局——世界三分之一的牛仔面料来自中国常州。
