东京电力公司1951年成立，雇员超过4万人，提供日本三分之一供电需求，包括首都东京。

日本东京电力公司2001年建设一座天然气压差发电站，以提高能源利用率。压差发电是指利用液化天然气在低温下变成气体时产生的膨胀能量来发电，即所谓“冷热发电”。
