飞鸽的诞生:“飞鸽”自行车有着悠久的历史渊源。1936年日本实业家在天津建立昌和工厂,生产自行车,品牌是“铁锚”。后国民党接管了“昌和”,开始生产“胜利”牌自行车,后又改名“中字”牌。新中国成立后,工厂很快恢复了生产。1949年4月,刘少奇主席到工厂视察,亲自批准调拨13万斤小米,作为恢复生产的经费,并鼓励大家搞革新,造新车。300名职工开展了“建新中国一代坚固、耐用、轻快、美观的自行车”活动,经过两个多月的连续研制,1950年7月5日,十辆样车诞生了。这些车子又结实、又轻快,两个轮子就像翅膀。当时正值世界和平运动,工人们说:“就叫飞鸽吧!”经市委批准,定名为“飞鸽”。新中国第一个自行车品牌——“飞鸽”诞生了。飞鸽车成为计划经济时期天津经济的支柱,多次评为名优产品,跻身全国三大品牌;在新时期焕发异彩,成为驰名保护。
