The school of design and art of Hunan University, founded in 1977, is one of the earliest design and art schools in China. In 1993, he was granted the right of master's degree in industrial plastic arts (current design) earlier in China. In 2005, he was granted the right of doctor's degree in Design Arts (current design). In 2008, he was awarded the national characteristic major in industrial design. At present, the college has three undergraduate majors of industrial design, product design and visual communication design, three master's programs of design, industrial design engineering and MFA, and one doctor's program of first level discipline of design. Hunan University Rochester Institute of design (Shenzhen), which is jointly organized by Hunan University and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), is a domestic international school of design, with a target scale of 1500 students and degrees awarded to both China and the United States. The school of design and art invited a group of master level experts from Italy, the United States, Japan, Denmark, South Korea, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Finland and other countries, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan to Hunan University for academic exchanges and short-term seminars.
