He accidentally invented a carbonated drink, named Brad, which is a mixture of cola fruit and precious essential oil. On August 28, 1898, Bradham changed its name to Pepsi Cola, a beverage that functions like pepsin and helps digestion. In 1902, Bradham founded Pepsi Cola. At first, Colby himself mixed the slurry and sold it through the soda counter. Later he realized that there was a huge business opportunity to fill Pepsi so that people everywhere could enjoy it. About 70 years later, Pepsi Cola merged with frito lay, a leisure food giant, in 1965 and officially changed its name to Pepsi. Since 1977, PepsiCo Inc has entered the fast food industry, including PizzaHut, TacoBell and KFC. In order to return the focus of market operation to beverage and leisure food, PepsiCo made a major strategic adjustment in October 1997, separating its restaurant business with pizza hut, Taco Bell and KFC from the company, making it an independent listed company, namely Yum global company (now called Yum!). Over the years, PepsiCo has been developing the spirit of innovation to meet the needs of the market while ensuring good financial performance. In 1998, PepsiCo acquired the world famous Tropicana juice beverage company, greatly enriching its product line. In 2001, PepsiCo merged with Quaker, a world-famous food company. Through this acquisition, Gatorade, a first-class sports drink brand, was included in PepsiCo. In 1992, PepsiCo formed a strategic partnership with Thomas J. Lipton to produce Lipton, the brand of instant tea beverage, in the North American market. In 2003, PepsiCo promoted the largest and most successful instant tea partnership in the North American market to the world. In 2010, PepsiCo also acquired two largest filling plants, PepsiCo Bottling Group (PBG) and PepsiCo America (PA), which greatly enhanced PepsiCo's beverage business in North America and Europe. In 2011, PepsiCo acquired VIM bill Dan, a leading Russian food and beverage brand, for us $4.2 billion. The acquisition makes PepsiCo the largest producer of food and beverage in Russia, the leader of the country's fast-growing dairy market, and will enable PepsiCo to build in key markets in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The acquisition also increased PepsiCo's annual global revenue from $10 billion to about $13 billion, and further fulfilled its strategic goal of reaching $30 billion by 2020.
