山东电视台始建于1960年10月1日，至今已走过45年的历程。目前自办卫星频道、齐鲁频道、体育频道、农科频道、公共新闻频道、少儿频道、付费频道《收藏天下》七套节目和北京基地、上海基地、山东电视台网站。卫星频道于1994年元月1日通过亚太-1A卫星发射，实现全国及周边国家的覆盖，并于当年在全国较早实行全天24小时不间断播出。2002年10月30日开通了亚洲-3S卫星数字信号发射，同时实现广播、电视信号的双星发射。

卫视按照市场化运作努力打造七个频道，基本上实现了专业化经营的方式。卫星频道是以新闻为主的综合频道，以“情深似大海，义重如泰山”为频道定位语，立足全省，面向全国，走向世界。齐鲁频道是以城镇居民为主要观众对象的综合性频道，通过无线发射，光缆传输覆盖全省，全天24小时播出。体育频道以传播体育文化，弘扬体育精神，倡导全民健身、愉悦观众身心为宗旨的体育专业频道，通过全省有线电视网传送到全省十七个地、市，全天24小时播出。

农科频道是定位于农村、农业、农民的专业频道，通过有线电视网传送全省十七个地市，每天播出17小时。公共?新闻频道是为市、县（市区）转变职能，定位于全省各市、县新闻服务的综合频道，实施全省覆盖，每天播出18小时。电视数字付费频道《收藏天下》，是我国定位于“收藏、交流”内容的专业化数字付费电视频道，普通观众只需加一个机顶盒，就可以看到节目并欣赏到视听节目，每天播出19小时。少儿频道以传播社会主义精神文明和青少年思想道德教育为阵地的专业频道，力争办出特色、办出水平。
