《新民周刊》的核心竞争力主要体现在深度调查上,尤以热点调查、财富调查、文化调查凸显特色。鉴于《新民周刊》创刊以来在深度报道方面卓有成效的表现,并赢得了广大读者,也包括媒体同行的高度认可,因此,在2005年11月,在上海所有日报、电视台、电台、周报等共同参与角逐的“上海市媒体优秀品牌”评选中,《新民周刊》的“深度报道”一举胜出,荣获首批“上海市媒体优秀品牌”的称号。

2013年10月28日经中共上海市委批准,由解放日报报业集团和文汇新民联合报业集团整合重组的上海报业集团正式成立。

《解放日报》是解放日报报业集团的主报,也是上海市委的机关报,于1949年5月28日正式创刊,报头为毛泽东同志亲笔题写。
